What should you pay attention to if you want to bet on an event where the PKs start to roar? There are of course many different events under the heading of ‘racing’, such as the Moto GP and Speedway. But the most popular, by far, is Formula 1 for enthusiasts and gamblers alike.
Season betting
World Champion – Driver’s Title
This is a bet where you predict which driver will become the world champion in Formula 1. A very popular bet before the season starts as the odds are normally quite competitive. And because the market remains open throughout the racing season, you still have the option to trade out (‘sell’ or ‘exchange’) your bet at any time and waive all or part of your liability
Constructors Championship
This bet is obviously not as popular as betting on who will win the Drivers’ Championship, but it is still quite a popular betting option. So you bet on which team (for example Ferrari or Mercedes McLaren) will win the constructors’ championship. Here again, you have to look at the quality of both drivers and car (the ‘material’), with the difference that here you have to look at the quality of both drivers in the team because you are actually betting on both.
Qualifying Bets
Pole Position
The purpose of the qualifying races before the Grand Prix is held is to determine the starting grid. Which driver will start from which position on Sunday? A popular bet is to predict which driver will make it to pole position (first starting position – we’ll add it just in case). The starting positions of drivers usually have a major influence on the final ranking.
Training – Winning Driver
You can bet on the winning driver during each training session. At the bookmakers you will find these types of markets that you can bet on: Practice 1 – Winning Driver, Practice 2 Winning Driver, etc. This way you can place multiple bets during the training session. And for you, the Grand Prix starts two days earlier.
Race Bets
Winner
The most popular and obvious bet is of course who will win the race. Doesn’t need too much explanation. The only thing is that the odds will of course change after qualifying if the grid order is known and the returns on bets diminish the closer a driver gets to pole position.
Winning Car
The winning car, i.e. a bet on the team that wins. Basically, it is a linked bet on the two drivers driving for the same team. A good bet if you’re convinced that a certain team is going to win the Grand Prix, but you can’t decide which driver will cross the finish line first.
Podium Finish
This is a ‘placement bet’ where you don’t really bet on a particular ranking, but simply bet that a driver will finish in the top three. The amount you win is also the same whether the driver finishes first or third. As a result, the odds are shorter, so you can best use this market if you have a good feeling about a certain driver but don’t necessarily think he will win.
take points
Points Finish
A similar bet to the podium finishes, except you’re now betting that a particular driver will finish in the points – which means he must finish in the top 10. This is a market that has a lot of short-priced racers in it. That is why most bookmakers do not want to do price increases and you can sometimes only find these bets on the exchanges.
Fastest Lap
Unless they also win the Grand Prix with it, most drivers won’t be very interested in whether they eventually clocked the fastest lap in the race. It is of course interesting for gamblers to pay attention to if they have bet their money on it.
Number of Finishers
Note that you do not have to indicate exactly how many drivers will eventually finish. It works very simply; the bookmaker comes up with a number and you have to determine whether the number of finished drivers is below or above this. The odds should be the same for both options because the bookmakers are actually choosing a spread of the number of finishers they think are most likely.
